Date Night…

Posted by littletreephotog on December 5, 2009

A quick post to write down my list of gratitude…

  1. Date Night with the hubby!  We had af nice dinner at Red Robin and then shared a Peanut Butter and Chocolate Shake.  It was so fun…We sat outside in the cool of the night and share the shake with two straws…Kinda sweet!
  2. Reading with my son…We encouraged are children to read for 30 minutes everyday…Last year at one point I started having the kids read to me for 10 min each night but we got out of it after awhile…not something I am happy about…Anyhow, I am starting it back up now.  My son is reading Diary of a Whimpie Kid to me.  Pretty funny book!
  3. Hot Chocolate…This morning I had a photo session…we braved the cooler winter air…it was about 40 degrees out while we were out and about.  It was nice, not cold enough to make it miserable, but cold enough to need a light coat, scarf and gloves.  After the shoot I treated my son and myself to hot chocolate…It was so good…warmed my hands and my soul.  It was a nice touch to the morning.

That’s all for now…watching Criminal Minds with my husband…we just love this series!

…behind…

Posted by littletreephotog on December 4, 2009

A few weeks ago I told myself I was going to do a gratitude post each day…ya, that lasted all but what? 2-3 days.  So last night my husband asked me how my gratitude blogging was going…Not too well!  I need to kick it into gear and do this everyday…All I have to do is simply list 3 things I am grateful for that day…to bring more positive energy into my life…so, at this point I am behind but I am not going to fret about it…pick myself back up and start again….

So my list for today includes:

  1. A new day with new opportunities…each day I have the opportunity to start anew…to do better, to be happier and to do the things I didn’t do yesterday…although it is better to not put things off…I really need to overcome procrastination!!!!
  2. My husband’s support.  This man truly makes me a better person.  He encourages me and tries to make me laugh and smile when he knows I am down on myself.  He seriously does some funny stuff to make me smile…and my kids get the biggest kick out of it!
  3. The beauty around us…this afternoon I took 30 minutes and walked around a bit on the ASU east campus taking pictures…of simply things that I see everyday…I found bright colors, beautiful flowers, and unique textures.  As I have been working on starting up my photography business I have been reading a lot of photography books in order to gain more knowledge and therefore improve my craft…the main message I am getting…P R A C T I C E!!! So that is what I have been doing…on people and things…and that things are what I used today to practice…the simple, beautiful things around me.

I hope to get a picture from today’s photo excursion up  shortly…so be sure to check back soon….

Capture My Utah

Posted by littletreephotog on December 3, 2009

A few months back one of my sisters told me about this project of putting this book together…photographers of all skill levels were being asked to submit their photographs for possible publication in this book.  The photographers were voted on by peers…here’s more about it directly from the source:  Capture My Utah:

What’s the best way to create a local photography book?  Local photographers.  What’s the best way to determine which photos are good enough to be published?  Local editors.  It’s as simple as that.  Photographers contributed their photos, folks voted for their faves.  The highest-rated, and editors’ picks were published.

So I submitted a handful of some of my favorite images I have taken in my home state of Utah and got to work on voting on other images from fellow photographers….

and yesterday I found out this image…

was selected and published in the book!

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I am so excited about this!

This photo was taken at my Grandfather’s funeral 2 years ago in Salina, Utah.  Pictured holding the flag are my two brothers and four of my cousins.  I titled the photo HONOR.  Grandpa was a Veteran and it was very touching to witness the entire ceremony that took place at the burial.  It was an HONOR to be the granddaughter of such a great man.

Cherry Oatmeal Crispies

Posted by littletreephotog on December 2, 2009

These are one of my very favorite cookies!  I have a love/hate relationship with them…simply because I love them so much and it is the best dough EVA! and I end up eating so much dough I get sick…So anyway, I hope you will try the recipe out and come back and let me know what you think.

Cherry Oatmeal Crispies

1 cup shortening

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

2 well-beaten eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon soda

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups quick-cooking oats

1 1/2 – 2 cups dried cherries

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients and oats. Mix well. Shape in rolls, wrap in waxed paper, chill. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10-13 minutes. Yield: 5 dozen.

You may substitute 1 cup raisins or chocolate chips for the cherries….However, IMHO I think they are the best with the cherries…

I rarely put them in the refrigerator as directed…I add a bit more flour to the recipe because the dough is sticky…it is not necessary to add extra flour if you are going to refrigerate them.
